Further delay: this month, the council’s Community Service Overview and Scrutiny Committee was set to discuss the conclusions of the feasibility study looking at the possibiilty of demolishing and developing Northcote Library and building a new site opposite, to include the libary, bookshop, cafe and community hall. However it has apparently been postponed to June!
Very frustrating. However, we have had two meetings now with the council, GLL, and the architects doing the study, and have asked to see their proposed plans as soon as possible. We still have a lot of support, and have taken heart from the news in The Bookseller that 2015 saw the first rise in printed book sales for seven years and 72% of independent bookshops reported sales increases over the last year.
